A Visit To The Oyster Farm
Weather:
Cloudy with light winds
A 3 & ½ hour (1:00-4:30) custom-outing for a young couple from the UK today: 1 crew/guide/oyster-shucker aboard – AJ. The Captain was/is Marty (myself) and the customers are D & D. The pick-up is/was at Portland Pier at 1:00 with return to same local. I provided 1.5 dozen locally sourced oysters of 3 different varieties, lemons, a freshly made Mignonette Sauce, a regular cocktail sauce, ice, water and various soft-drinks. The customer was invited to BYOB for their own choices of adult-beverages.
Trip Plan:
Pick-up 1:00, Seal and Seabird viewing at Halfway Rock, ~2:00 arrive and ~½ hr tour Chebeague Island aquaculture oyster-farm-float off SW end of Little Chebeague Island, purchase another 1 doz oysters directly from farm-float, ~3:00 pick-up a mooring in or near Indian Cove off NW end of Great Diamond Island -shuck oysters and allow customer to enjoy all while not underway, raise anchor and make-way to the Portland Head Light via White Face and Rams Light. Return to Portland Pier by ~4:30. Result: Success and per plan! D & D had a blast!
